Tips and Hints

Use white card stock for tags if you are donating your unsold items.

Use pastel or bright card stock for tags if you are picking up your unsold items.

NO DARK COLORED or TEXTURED card stock. Dark colored card stock does not read well through our barcode scanners and causes potential errors in your payout.

Do not use gray, cream or light yellow card stock. These colors appear white under the florescent lights and cause confusion as to whether the seller intended to donate or pick-up their unsold items.

Be sure your tag barcode looks crisp and clear.

Your printer should have enough ink so the barcode is not faded. If the printer has too much ink, the tags can smears or bleed together. You must use normal or draft print setting when printing your tags to help avoid barcode reading errors. Use only black ink. Do not use a dot-matrix printer.

These hints are very important; if our scanners can't read your barcode clearly, it will cause potential errors in your payout.

Ask yourself what would you be willing to pay for a comparable item?

Tags are to be attached to all clothing and soft items using a tagging gun. When possible, gun through a seam so that you don't create a hole in the clothing item. No one wants to purchase an item with a hole in it.

When hanging clothes, the hanger should look like a question mark. This helps as customers flip through the racks of clothes and insures a consistent and organized look.

NVCE will not sell items without a tag. Use a piece of masking tape to create an identifier label with your consignor and item #, provide us with an inventory sheet, and if your tag is lost, we can make a replacement tag. At the end of the sale, all tagless items will be placed on a lost-and-found table for pick-up. We do not need your inventory sheet if you have not put identifier tape on your items.

At Kinko's, Staples and Office Depot, you can buy card stock by the single sheet, this will save you from having to buy a whole ream. Our tags print eight to a page.

After check-in, you will be asked to place your merchandise in the appropriate area, such as 2T girl clothes on the 2T girls rack, puzzles on the puzzle table, etc. So you might want to pre-sort your items to speed the process along.

If tagging your items at our site, please come prepared to spend about an hour per 50 to 100 items. Do NOT bring toddlers. It will be difficult to supervise young children while doing this type of work.

Be sure all of your items are CLEAN!!! NO STAINS!

Stain removal tips and suggestions can be located at www.fabriclink.com/holidaystain.html

Use zipper bags sealed at the top with packing tape for smaller items. Zipper bags help keep a small item from getting lost or overlooked in the shopping process. Seal you bags with clear, strong tape. This protects your item/items from losing pieces.

Do not put your tags inside any bag. You can gun tags to the outside of bagged items.

Use Zip Ties or tagging loops to attach shoes together and tags to equipment

Batteries should be in all items that require them as we will test them at check in.

You can take them out after testing but your items will sell better if you leave them in. Shoppers want to know for themselves that the item is in working condition.

When tagging books, puzzle and game boxes use painters or masking tape.

Only place tape on the right and left side of the tag, never on all 4 sides and never on the bar code. Packing & scotch tape will tear the tag, the book, and/or the box.
